Second Chances are What We Do Here

When rescue dogs come to a foster home, there is a clear turning point that they are getting their second chance at a forever home. When I foster, my role is to give them a safe place to land while their forever family finds them and to love them enough that they forget they were ever abandoned. Their second chances are so beautiful to witness.

But I’m also living my second chance, and my rescues are a big part of the purpose that became even more significant to me when I started my second chance. I’ll tell you about that turning point in my life when death came really close and I had to decide what happened next.

Water Safety USA says everyone should wear a life vest when they are around open water and participating in water sports. Kids and weak swimmers should wear life vests in more circumstances. Some things to think about:

  • Strong swimmers drown.
  • One factor contributing to fatal drownings in open water may be the expectation that because an individual is able to swim in a pool, he/she will be safe in open water.
  • A life vest protects you from finding yourself in a life or death situation when a split second decision is made on the water.
  • When faced with an emergency, it is impossible to know exactly how you will react. It’s best to be prepared for anything.
  • Water is incredibly powerful. Stay vigilant and stay safe.

Please wear your life vests and be safe, everyone! Love,
